Vintage Native American Silver Turritella Agate Pendant Necklace

Vintage 1970s Native American sterling silver pendant necklace, the pendant is bezel set with a large oval Turritella agate. The accompanying 16 inch silver necklace consists of large links, secured with a lobster clasp.

The rear of the pendant is stamped by the maker 'MLS' and has a few light dings, commensurate with age and use. 

This agate is distinguished by the beautifully preserved fossilised shells of extinct freshwater Elimia tenera snails, offering a captivating display of
natural art and geological history.

Turritella agate forms through the slow accumulation and solidification of silica in rock cavities, with the fossilised snails becoming incorporated during the process. These fossils are approximately 50 million years old.
