Vintage Scottish 9ct yellow gold pendant necklace, featuring a design found in the Neolithic village of Skara Brae, Orkney.
Skara Brae was occupied 3200 BC to 2200 BC on the Orkney Islands of Scotland. While the exact meaning of this symbol is uncertain it is believed to be ritualistic or linked to social prestige and community identity.
This pendant was produced by renowned Scottish Orkney jewellers, Ortak.
The pendant is supplied with a fine gold twist chain, which fastens securely with a spring bolt clasp.
Pendant: 34mm x 22mm including the attached bale
Hallmark: Maker's mark 'MG' for Malcolm Gray (Ortak), gold crown symbol, '375' for 9ct gold, assay Edinburgh, date letter 'M' for 1986
Chain: 21 inches, jump ring stamped '375' for 9ct gold
