Scottish agates have been used in jewellery for over 200 years, and by the end of the 18th century Scotland was a major source of semiprecious stones for the industry. After frequenting Scotland and purchasing Balmoral Castle in 1852, Queen Victoria helped to make Scottish pebble jewellery widely popular.
