Set in silver, this gorgeous antique lavalier collet necklace is set with graduating citrine gemstones. Each citrine leans toward a deep honey and burnt amber hue, held in a decorative scalloped open backed collet setting, circa 1890 - 1910.
The centerpiece of this necklace features a triple knife-edge bar design, popularised during the late 19th century. The 'knife bar' technique involves thinning the supports so that, when viewed from the front, they almost disappear, allowing the gemstones to appear as if they are floating against the skin.
Citrines: x 10, oval cut, largest 15mm x 10mm, smallest 9mm x 6mm
Drop: 37mm
Length: 16.25 inches
Weight: 9.2g
Condition: Some small nibbles to some of the citrines, commensurate with age and use. The largest central citrine has some visible natural inclusions close to the surace, as seen in the photos.
In the Victorian era, citrine was often associated with 'the sun's rays', believed to bring prosperity and a cheerful disposition to the wearer.
