Antique 18ct Gold Victorian Mourning Brooch.

Exquisite example of an early Victorian mourning brooch with a central glazed rock crystal plaque enclosing perfectly plaited hair. The brooch features decorative gold floral chased design surrounding a black enamel border. The enamel depicts 'In memory of' in gothic writing.

The brooch fastens with a gold 'c' clasp and is in full working order.

Engraved to the reverse of the brooch;

'Margaret Goodburn

died Nov 17th 1842

Aged 58'

(the number 2 in the 1842 is partially obscured by the brooch clasp fitting)

Hallmark: No marks, tests as 18ct Gold

The brooch is in great condition, there are a couple of small losses of enamel and a tiny amount of surface wear to the glazed panel, visible only on extreme close inspection. 

The brooch will be supplied in a new presentation box.
