Antique Georgian 15ct Gold Enamel Diamond Pearl Pansy Ring
Antique Georgian 15ct Gold Enamel Diamond Pearl Pansy Ring
Antique Georgian 15ct Gold Enamel Diamond Pearl Ring
Gorgeous antique ring, features a rich colbalt blue enamel guilloche pansy flower. At the centre is a rose cut diamond surrounded by 6 small natural pearls in a closed back 15ct yellow gold setting, circa 1800.
The tapered shoulders of the ring are exquisitely engraved with fine detail.
In the regency era, the pansy flower represented love. The name pansy itself comes from the French, pensée, which means "thought" or "remembrance." The flower was dedicated to St. Valentine, due to its close association with love. Pansies were believed to be an aphrodisiac and an important ingredient in love potions.
