Vintage Green Spinel 18ct Gold Ring

Gorgeous vintage 18ct yellow gold ring, set with a solitaire emerald cut synthetic green spinel gemstone.

The bezel set spinel is in fantastic condition, and is a beautiful shade of pale green.

Flame fusion synthetic spinels have been produced since 1908, becoming commercial available in 1930. They feature prominently in Art Deco jewellery and have the same chemical composition as earth mined spinels.

The name spinel comes from the Greek word for spark. The name has also been said to come from the Latin word spina for spine or thorn, because spinel is often found as very sharp crystals. Mentions of this gem are found in records dating to the 9th century AD, and the British Royal Imperial crown is also set with spinel.
