Antique Victorian Cameo Black Sardonyx Brooch 18ct Gold

Exquisite Victorian black hardstone sardonyx cameo brooch, in an raised 18ct gold fine rope setting, circa 1850.

The circular brooch depicts a Grecian lady's head, her hair is beautifully carved cascading to her shoulders.

The rear of the brooch has a closed glazed compartment containing a lock of hair.

The brooch fastens with a 'C' clasp and gold pin, with a gold security chain & safety pin added to a gold bale. 

The rear of the brooch has been repaired over the years, as seen in the photos. Repair to the rear of the frame and to the hinge of the pin with evidence of lead soldering. The hinge is a little narrower than the bracket allowing for some slight movement of the pin.
