Antique Victorian Bee Brooch 9ct Gold
Antique Victorian Bee Brooch 9ct Gold
Gorgeous antique Victorian brooch depicting a honey bee sitting on a shaped gold plinth.
The bee is beautifully crafted with engraved detail throughout right down the the end of his wee feet.
The brooch securely fastens with a gold pin and 'C' clasp, typical for the era. The clasp is hallmarked, as it the gold pin.
The Victorians loved naturalistic jewellery, in the 19th century the bee was a popular symbol of industry, hard work, dedication, prosperity and fertility. The bee emblem has been used throughout in many different cultures throughout history.
Length: 28mm length x 16mm
Weight: 2.8g
Hallmark: The gold clasp is marked '9CT', the pin has the maker's mark 'RL' and another mark that is not legible.
He is in fabulous condition, I have depicted him as a bee although noted that he does have 8 legs instead of 6 in order for him to be securely attached to the plinth.
The brooch will be supplied in a new presentation box.
